Hungry for God
By Debbie Oliveira   March 29th, 2010

Our eighteen-month old baby, Leilani, has an amazing appetite. One of her first words was “more” meaning she wants more food. She is really cute and the first thing you see when she enters a room is her tummy sticking out.

The other day I witnessed a scene that really impressed me. We were having our breakfast connection at our church and we were praying and blessing our day. Leilani was quietly eating her eggs as we were concentrated in the prayer. Sitting next to her was my friend Tyua, who hadn’t finished hers. As Tyua was talking, Leilani reached for her plate and started eating Tyua’s eggs! She was hungry, so nothing stood in her way.

My father in the gospel, Gary Hargrave, wrote a foundational teaching series on Hunger, which I love. In it, he says “You’re not polite when you are hungry, you are driven. So turn your hunger loose!” That really touched me because the Scriptures tell us that our hunger makes God move on our behalf. “Blessed are those who hunger after righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” (Matthew 5:6)

I want to hunger after God and have the same drive I saw in my baby. When you are hungry for God, you don’t care about anything other than reaching in to the only thing that can satisfy you. When I am hungry for the Lord, I only have one focus and I don’t have time to complain or be disappointed; I don’t waste my time because I must seek after Him.

Father, loose our spiritual hunger!
