Daniel and Debbie

Senior Pastor
Daniel Oliveira
and wife Debbie
Daniel Oliveira has been a member of The Living Word Fellowship since childhood. From a young age, Daniel served as a church ministry, and in 1990 was ordained as a pastor at A Palavra Viva in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He spent twelve years overseeing The Living Word Fellowship’s publishing and media ministry in Brazil, including weekly translations of Living Word audio releases from English into Portuguese.

Concurrent with his work in the media ministry, Daniel and his wife Debbie, who is an English teacher, also supervised the youth ministry of A Palavra Viva, directing the church activities for young adults. The Oliveiras have also directed the annual youth program at the fellowship’s summer camp in Kalona, Iowa, since 2000.

In July 2007 Daniel, along with his wife Debbie and their five year old daughter Julia, moved to Hawaii to pastor the Hale O Nā Kāula Church in Pukalani, Maui.

Thom and Beverly

Associate Pastor
Thom Foster
and wife Beverly
Thom Foster was ordained as a minister in the 1990s and serves as associate pastor of the Hale O Nā Kāula congregation.

Thom was raised on a family farm in rural Iowa where he learned to love and care for all things living. His great-grandfather was a minister, so Thom often heard about God; but it was in his high school years that he had his own personal meeting with the Lord.

Thom attended the University of Iowa, after which he played drums professionally for a time. He then moved to Illinois where he met and married his wife, Beverly. In 1975 the couple moved back to Iowa and cultivated the family farm.

In 1978, feeling that there was something more for their lives, the Fosters attended a Living Word Fellowship meeting where they heard John Robert Stevens speak. Every aspect of the service—from the Word to the music and worship—touched their hearts and stirred up their deep love of the Lord.

Responding to the Lord’s leading for their lives, the Fosters moved to Maui in 1982 to be a part of Hale O Nā Kāula Church. In 1986 they started a landscape business. Many of the congregants of Hale O Nā Kāula have worked for the Fosters since then and their business has been instrumental in supporting projects throughout The Living Word Fellowship.

Robert and Jacki

Associate Pastor
Robert Poulson
and wife Jackie
Robert Poulson is an associate pastor of Hale O Nā Kāula Church. Robert was born in 1949 in Los Angeles, California. In 1970, while studying art in college, Robert attended a rock concert at Hollywood Presbyterian Church where God met him and changed his life forever.

Shortly after this, Robert moved to Illinois where he married his wife Jacki and started a family. At this time the Poulsons began to serve in different positions at various denominational churches. However, their spiritual lives were still unfulfilled in an unexplainable way, and their hunger drove them to seek a greater meeting with God. They found what they were looking for when they began receiving a weekly Living Word publication titled This Week, which contained messages by John Robert Stevens. After learning that Stevens lived in California, the Poulsons moved back to Los Angeles to experience firsthand the ministry of this man of God.

They attended a mid-week church service at Grace Chapel of South Gate where they received ministry from John Stevens. Immediately they knew they had found their spiritual family, and they began attending services at a Living Word Fellowship church in nearby Fallbrook, California.

In 1979 the Lord led them to move to Hawaii. Originally living in Kona, on the island of Hawaii, they later moved to Maui where they participated as members of Haiku Chapel and started up a construction company which they still own and operate.

The Poulsons have three grown children and are devoted grandparents.
